Snacks in Pantone

I never really appreciated the art that goes into food styling, until i started working in advertising and attended several food photography shoots. And when i stopped working, i actually started cooking myself something i never thought i'd ever do, and realized how much effort it takes to present the perfect yummy plate... I haven't accomplished that yet! BUT i found these wonderful Pantone Tartlets by French Art Director Emilie Guelpa, created for the French food magazine Fricote, that are truly inspiring for any designer or foodie. I love that she chose Pantone colors as a concept behind making these. Bon Appetit mes amis!

Folds

David Mesguich and Valentin Van der Meulen combined their creative efforts to build this large triple-headed sculpture called FOLDS, which seem like 2 faces pulling away from a centered skull. The artists have captured every geometric shape formed but the frozen animation. The sensation is remarkable, you can constantly feel the pulling of the faces. Very impressive!

Exhibition | Black is the New White

I can't believe it's been almost a year since Art Dubai already! Here's an artist to look out for... Nadia Kaabi-Linke, the artist behind the very popular "Flying Carpets" in last year's Art Dubai which got her the Abraaj Capital Art Prize 2011, Kaabi-Linke has become one of the most exciting names in contemporary Middle Eastern art.

This year Lawrie Shabibi is proud to present Kaabi-Linke's "Black is the New White" the first solo exhibition since she was awarded the Abraaj Capital Art Prize in 2011. The exhibition opens on the 19th of March as part of Art Dubai Week 2012 and will feature six new works from the artist. Kaabi-Linke's work revolves around social, politcal, cultural and historical concepts which reveal hidden contradictions and coincidences in subtle ways. You'll notice in her work, she uses a multitude of media to express her ideas merging beauty with violence or refinement with vulgarity, fearless to produce art that is evocative and paradoxical.

Kaabi-Linke was born in Tunis in 1978 to a Russian mother from Kiev and a Tunisian father. She studied in the Academy of Fine Arts Tunis and later recieved a PhD at the Sorbonne University of Paris in 2008. Today Kaabi-Linke lives and works in both Tunis and Berlin.
